At Harrogate Music festival in March, we were delighted to win the choir class and to go on to win the choral challenge class – a class for the winners of other classes! Congratulations too to Northern Lights quartet who won the vocal group class!
June saw us crossing the Humber Bridge to Cleethorpes to the Music Festival there, – where we had a clean sweep, winning the ladies choir class, the barbershop chorus class and the overall trophy for the highest marks of the day!
In July it was a festival of a different kind – the ADAM (Acomb Dance and Music) festival in our local village where we performed two sets to a full hall. No prizes up for grabs on this occasion – just a chance to entertain!
Friday March 6th saw us travelling to Pontefract to take part in the Music Festival. We were thrilled to win the barbershop class with distinction and even more thrilled to won the female open choir class with Honours! Northern Lights and Just a Minim took joint second place in the female Barbershop quartet class and our mixed quartet Delekaté won the vocal ensemble class – again with Honours! What a night!!
Just 2 weeks till we do it all again at Harrogate!
It’s that time of year again when we compete in the Music Festivals. This year we have the chorus competing in both Barbershop and choir classes at both Pontefract and Harrogate and we also have 3 quartets competing at Pontefract. We have two ladies who have recently successfully passed their chorus auditions so will be singing there for the first time. I wonder if we can pick up a trophy or two?
Well we are now back in full rehearsal mode and preparing for the music festivals in March. We are delighted that three new ladies have passed the first part of their chorus audition and wish them well for their chorus tests in a few weeks. We’re also starting to make preparations for the next convention in Bournemouth in October. Seems a long way away (in both senses) but we have to plan ahead!!
It was good to get back to rehearsals this week and we are easing our way back into full rehearsal mode!! On February 2nd we will be holding a “Bring a Friend” evening and we hope that we can encourage a few friends to come along and see (and hear) what we do! Please get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like more details!
We are absolutely thrilled to be winners of a £500 grant from the Skipton Building Society! Many thanks to everyone who voted for us and helped us achieve this fabulous amount of money!
Convention arrived at last on the first weekend in November and what a weekend we had!! We had 42 ladies on the risers – 15 of them singing at convention for the first time. We were so proud of them! Although our scores were not quite as high as we would have liked, we had great time and I think everyone came away determined to do better next year!! It was wonderful to be able to watch the other choruses and quartets take to the stage and of course Delekate, our mixed quartet took part in the competition on the Sunday. They did a great job coming 5th in the competition with a really good score. Well done Delekate!
The holiday season is over now and we are back to full strength for rehearsals! We are on the last lap for convention now! Only two proper rehearsals then we are inviting our families and friends to join us on Oct 27th to see what all the fuss is about! We are getting very excited to go to convention now, but are still working hard for the last rehearsals. We are delighted to be taking no less than 16 ”first timers” to convention this year, making a total of 42 in the chorus! Our mixed quartet, Delikate, is rehearsing hard too and are looking forward to competing in the mixed quartet competition at LABBS.
Some of braved the rain to sing at the Adam Festival in Acomb today. Good job we had an indoor venue!
