One of the quartets from Main Street Sound is going to quartet prelims in Wolverhampton on Sat 21st June. Very good luck to Pam, Mary, Karen and Lisa – Rainbow Rhythm! You’ll be brilliant!
In August, Maggie, one of our lovely basses is getting married! She has asked for some of the chorus to sing at the wedding – what she didn’t tell us is that we are all going to be bridesmaids! 19 of us! That’s a lot bouquets! I’m sure that photos will follow after the big day but we had a trial run last night!
We’ve had a busy time! We now have 50 members in the chorus following the Learn to Sing Course and we have been busy fitting our ladies for dresses for convention as well as keeping up the hard work with our convention songs! We were delighted to be invited to sing on Monday 5th May at the brand new John Lewis store in York as part of the John Lewis 150th Anniversary Celebrations.
Next we have to get into gear for competing at the Cleethorpes Music Festival at the end of June – and for our Summer Concert in York in July. In the meantime some of us will be supporting our husbands, sons and grandsons who sing with Spirit of Harmony at the BABS convention in Harrogate. We wish them all luck!
Following our recent learn to sing course we have 18 new members who have joined our chorus! We are delighted that so many ladies wanted to stay on and become full members! We are all getting used to being a much bigger chorus and helping the new ladies learn our convention songs.
On March 15th two quartets from the chorus, Rainbow Rhythm and Northern Lights took part in the Vocal Ensemble class at Harrogate competitive music festival and were both awarded a distinction! The chorus entered the Open Vocal Class at the festival in the afternoon and were delighted to win the Charles Sykes Challenge Shield with Honours – together with £100!! It’s all getting so exciting!
Our Learn to Sing Course finished last Monday 24th February and we had 31 ladies finished the course. We were so proud of them being able to sing on their own – without the safety net of chorus members – in four part harmony! We are delighted that some ladies are coming back next week with a view to joining the chorus – but in the meantime it’s back to work for chorus members – only 2 rehearsals to Harrogate Music Festival!
What a fabulous night we had last week with 42 new ladies on the risers with us! We did lots of warm ups – ate lots of cake – and learned Nursery Rhymes! At the end of the evening half the ladies and half the chorus performed for the other half – singing in four part harmony!! Fantastic! Now we all have a new song to learn for this Monday so lets see how we all get on with that! We can’t wait!
It’s almost time for out Learn to Sing course and we have 40 ladies registered to join us! What a fantastic response! We are looking forward to meeting them all and having fun (whilst learning to sing of course) Watch out for the pictures!
Preparations are going very well for our Learn to Sing Course in February! We have all been busy this week delivering and handing out posters and leaflets. We already have several ladies booked on the course – but we have room for more! We’re really looking forward to the course – I’m sure the ladies who come along will enjoy it too!
Starting on February 3rd, we will be running a Learn To Sing Course for 4 weeks. If you have ever liked the idea of singing in four part harmony, now is your chance! Even if you think you can’t sing, you probably can with the right help!
Places are limited so do get in touch as soon as possible by calling one of the numbers on the flyer below, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
We would love you to come along!!
Last Monday night saw the chorus holding its AGM. It’s been a successful year for the chorus and we have raised our profile in the community due to a number of prestigious singouts. Our chorus director announced that we will be holding a four week “Learn to Sing” Course in February with the main aim of recruiting new members. Details are still being finalised but watch this space!!
On Wednesday 27th we had an early singout for a group of retired business men. This meant a very early start for some members who travel a long way to chorus. We have 2 ladies who make a 140 mile round trip! The audience (all male!) were very appreciative and joined in with the singing of Happy Birthday to one of our member who was celebrating her birthday today.
